Our company, RevoPaQ, located in downtown Long Beach, invented and we produce the INTERLOQ pocket phone stand.
When the Covid-19 pandemic started to wind down, we slowly began to go to restaurants again. My partner and I both like to look at our phones when we eat out, but I was very afraid that the tables might have some of the virus still on them. So I thought we need to get some phone stands that we can easily carry with us at all times, preferably something that would fit in our wallets. So I researched Amazon and other retailers for a credit card sized phone stand. But none of them were really thin enough to fit in my wallet. And as I investigated further I began to realize that this product does not yet exist. My background is graphic design and having done numerous custom CD jackets for the music industry I began to tinker with 2 blank credit cards and cutting slots in them and carving a notch to hold the phone. Getting the cards to easily slide together and hold was a challenge, but then I remembered a beautiful ancient Japanese art technique from when I studied in Japan. Kumiko Zaiku is the art of interconnecting thin wooden pieces which can create very elaborate designs. That was the "aha" moment, combining Kumiko Zaiku with a little tab aligned with a corresponding cavity proved to be perfect solution. We patented our new invention which is entitled "Snap-fit joint for interlocking cards" with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in February 2023.
